Thatch is a material that returns to the earth. We believe that it is a cutting-edge material, at a time when the global environment is becoming an issue. The system of ‘recycling’ is certainly wonderful, but once something is created, it will never disappear unless it is continuously recycled forever. And even in grasslands and reed beds that are disappearing due to development and neglect, there are plants and animals that live there.
These days, thatching has become a folk tale. However, it is necessary to reevaluate thatching, and let many people know about the grasslands and reed beds, where pampas grass and reeds, the materials for thatching, grow. It is important to think about thatching not only from an architectural point of view, but also from a larger perspective, including the environment and nature. By creating new thatching, we aim to interest people who have never heard of thatching before, to have traditional thatching and new thatching coexist, and to connect thatching and grassland culture to the future.
We cannot do without the conveniences of modern life. However, people are also part of nature. The more technology advances, the more we desire to be in touch with our senses. We believe that by changing just a small part of our lives, in a slight way, both human beings and nature will become richer.
